The race to qualify for the 17th edition of the European Championship through the group stage will draw to a close in November 2023.
Qualification began in March 2023 and takes place across 10 matchdays until November, with playoffs to decide some entrants held in March 2024.
There have been some heavyweight matches in qualifying already, including Italy and England meeting in Group C and two former champions, France and the Netherlands, being paired in Group B.

As tournament hosts, Germany were the only team to have qualified for Euro 2024 before the October qualifying matches.
Several teams were in a very strong position to qualify with matches to spare at that stage. This list will be updated as teams qualify.

How Euro 2024 qualification works
Of the 53 teams vying for qualification, 23 will get to play in the finals, alongside Germany. Those teams are split across 10 groups: seven containing five teams and three comprised of six.
The top two from each group will qualify, making up 20 places. The three remaining spots will go to the winners of playoff games, which will take place between teams who have performed best in the 2022-23 Uefa Nations League.
The group winners of Leagues A, B and C in the Nations League will be awarded those playoff spots – if they have not already qualified for Euro 2024. If they have, the next best-ranked team in their Nations League group will reach the playoffs. If those teams have also already qualified, places will filter down to the next league, finishing with League D.

Group B
Two-time champions and 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists France qualified from Group B on Matchday 7 by winning 2-1 in Amsterdam.
The Netherlands all but qualified by winning 1-0 in Athens on October 16 against Greece, able to mathematically confirm qualification against the Republic of Ireland on November 18. Greece can still be able to reach the finals via the playoff.

England qualified for Euro 2024 after securing a 3-1 win over rivals Italy at Wembley Stadium on October 17.
Ukraine and Italy will now contest the final automatic place in Group C. Ukraine host Italy on November 20 in the final match of group play, with the visitors holding the upper hand thanks to their superior goal differential.

Turkiye were the first team to qualify from Group D. Wales will join them on Matchday 8 if they win in Armenia and Croatia lose in Latvia.
Croatia have a playoff spot if they do not finish in the top two.

Albania qualified thanks to a 1-1 draw with Moldova on November 17, as they cannot finish outside the top two with one match to go. Poland needed to beat the Czechia on Matchday 9 to qualify, but failed to do so, meaning they can now only reach Euro 2024 via the playoff.
Czechia were unable to mathematically qualify on Matchday 9, but will now have a chance to do so as long as they avoid defeat to Moldova on Matchday 10, while their opponents must win to go through.

Hungary qualified on November 16 with a draw in Bulgaria, as they cannot drop out of the top two on the final matchday.
Serbia will reach the finals with either a win or draw against Bulgaria on Matchday 10, or if Montenegro don’t win in Hungary.

A tight Group H has gone down to the wire. Denmark secured qualification with a November 17 win over Slovenia, who still can reach the final on Matchday 10 despite the defeat.
Slovenia qualify with a win or draw at home against Kazakhstan, while the visitors must emerge victorious to go through directly, although they can also lean on the playoff should they falter.

Speaking of down to the wire, Group I is still very much in flux. Switzerland and Romania are leading the charge, and they can confirm qualification with Matchday 10 victories against Kosovo and Israel respectively.
Israel, whose schedule has been thrown into chaos thanks to the nation’s recent hostilities, can still qualify if they beat Romania and then collect the necessary points against both Andorra and Kosovo to make up ground. Kosovo aren’t yet eliminated from contention either, but their prospects seem dire, needing victories against at least two of Switzerland, Belarus, and Israel to have a chance.

Led by five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, Euro 2016 champions Portugal qualified by beating Slovakia at home on October 13 with the help of two goals from their captain, who leads the qualifying competition in scoring.
Slovakia joined them with their victory over Iceland on November 16, with Luxembourg and Bosnia & Herzegovina both advancing to the playoff round.

When is Euro 2024?
The finals will run from June 14 – July 14 2024.
The qualifying playoff semifinals will be held on March 21 2024, with the finals of those scheduled for five days later.
Where is Euro 2024?
This will be the first time Germany has staged the tournament since the reunification of the country. West Germany hosted the 1988 finals, while Germany were 2006 World Cup hosts.
