Barcelona can put one hand on the La Liga trophy if they can manage to beat arch-rivals Real Madrid on Sunday at the Camp Nou in the latest edition of El Clasico.
A victory in that match for Barcelona would take their lead to a virtually unassailable 12 points with 12 matches remaining. Conversely, defending champions Real Madrid will also be seeking a win at all costs to reduce the deficit to six points, which is a more reasonable gap to make up in the final stretch.
In the race for the top four spots and the Champions League berths that come with them, Atletico Madrid have solidified their hold on third place with three straight wins, while Real Sociedad can continue to stave off Real Betis for fourth place with a home win against last-place Elche.
At the bottom of the table, there are even clubs within two points, all seeking to avoid joining Elche in the bottom three places. The team from southeast Spain is all but destined for the drop to the second division with only two La Liga wins to its name so far. But all eyes are on giants Sevilla and Valencia, who still find themselves flirting with relegation.
The Sporting News will continue to track of the 2022/23 La Liga standings below.
