Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic exited Thursday night’s game against the Pelicans with a right heel injury.
The injury comes just a week after he suffered a right ankle sprain, which forced him to miss one game, but it did not appear to slow him down, dropping 53 points on the Detroit Pistons in his return.
With the Mavericks in the thick of the playoff race out West, they can’t afford to be without their leading man for long.
Here’s what we know about Doncic’s injury and his status with the Mavericks moving forward.

What is Luka Doncic’s injury?
Doncic suffered a right heel contusion midway through the third quarter and after exiting the game, he did not return.
As he drove to the basket, he was met at the rim by Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas, falling awkwardly to the floor after drawing a foul.
He gingerly got to his feet and after he initially tried to stay in the game, he went back to the locker room.
He finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in 31 minutes
In 46 games this season entering tonight’s contest, Doncic is averaging 33.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.1 steals.
How long will Luka Doncic be out?
It’s unclear if Doncic will miss more time with this injury, with Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd telling reporters postgame that more will be known tomorrow.
“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow, and we’ll have a better update to give you,” he said.
