Kyle Shanahan is looking to cash in with a Super Bowl victory this year.
The 49ers head coach has had to navigate all sorts of quarterback issues during his tenure in San Francisco — injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, having to play C.J. Beathard, Nick Mullens and Brock Purdy — while getting the team to the NFC championship game in three of his six seasons.
Of course, such success should come with a paycheck to match.

Shanahan’s performance has given him a couple of things that most NFL coaches yearn for: job security and a nice, juicy salary to fall back on.
Here’s what Shanahan reportedly is making in 2023:
In 2020, the 49ers signed Shanahan to a six-year contract extension, locking him into the franchise through the 2025 season.
It’s unclear exactly how much Shanahan is making — coaching salaries aren’t made public — but multiple outlets peg Shanahan’s annual salary at around $10 million. At the time of his extension, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer guesstimated that Shanahan was making around that figure.

If that number is accurate, then Shanahan is in the upper echelon of NFL coaches, perhaps in the top five. Rams coach Sean McVay, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and Chiefs coach Andy Reid are estimated to be making between $12 million and $15 million per season.
Shanahan has certainly earned the check, even though he hasn’t yet captured the ultimate prize. After a successful stint as Falcons offensive coordinator, he has helped guide the 49ers to two division crowns, three NFC championship game appearances and a Super Bowl berth since being hired in 2016.

Shanahan has helped build one of the league’s best offensive attacks, and he has done it with a revolving door at quarterback the past three seasons because of injury. The team also has successfully navigated the NFC West, one of the league’s more competitive divisions in recent years.
Much like their head coach, maybe the 49ers will finally hit paydirt come mid-February.
