It’s an Original Six showdown on TNT tonight, as the Maple Leafs and Rangers headline the Wednesday night doubleheader.
Toronto and New York are two of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs sit with a record of 28-11-3 and are tied with the fourth-most points in the conference. Only the Bruins have a better record in the Atlantic Division than Toronto.
The Rangers are 25-14-7, sitting in third place in a tough Metropolitan Division. They sit behind the Devils and Hurricanes.
The Rangers bested the Leafs in their lone previous meeting of the season. New York defeated Toronto 3-1 at Madison Square Garden back in mid-December. The two teams are scheduled to play once more this year after Wednesday, with that game coming on the final day of the regular season.
After the Bruins-Islanders contest, the Oilers and Blue Jackets conclude the night’s action in Edmonton.
Edmonton has won six games in a row, boosting their record to 27-18-3. The Oilers trail the Golden Knights, Kraken and Kings in the Pacific Division. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets own the worst record in the league at 14-30-2.
The two teams will meet again in late February, with that contest taking place in Columbus.
