Although the College Football Playoff semifinals will dominate the conversation on New Year’s Eve, there are two other fun matchups scheduled for Dec 31.
The day kicks off with a New Year’s Six showdown, Alabama vs. Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. Iowa and Kentucky will play at the same time in the Music City Bowl.
Both games will lead into Michigan vs. TCU in the Fiesta Bowl and Georgia vs. Ohio State in the Peach Bowl. The College Football Championship matchup should be set by midnight.
Other than Iowa vs. Kentucky, all the games on New Year’s Eve will be a showdown of ranked teams, so expect fireworks.

Alabama was the first school out of the Playoff, although it couldn’t have been surprised that it missed out. Bryce Young will close his college career with a game in New Orleans against the Big 12 champion Wildcats. K-State denied then-unbeaten TCU in the conference championship game, a nice feather in the cap of coach Chris Klieman.

Iowa vs. Kentucky
This game is a good candidate for Chaos Runs Game of the Day. Iowa’s defense is stifling while its offense is often incapble of moving the ball. That combination makes for weird games. Kentucky, meanwhile, is looking to cap a roller-coaster season with a win. This game is a rematch of last year’s Citrus Bowl, which the Wildcats won 20-17.
No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 TCU
This is where people will really start to tune in. Michigan is making its second consecutive Playoff appearance, but this time it’s favored after being throttled by Georgia last year. Donovan Edwards will be a player to watch for Michigan with top running back Blake Corum out. TCU will continue to lean on Heisman runner-up Max Duggan.

No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 Ohio State
The night will end with the Bullodgs and Buckeyes meeting to face the winner of Michigan-TCU. Both teams have high-powered offenses led by Heisman finalists: Stetson Bennett for Georgia and C.J. Stroud for Ohio State. But they also pride themselves on playing solid defense. This is one of the closer No. 1 vs. No. 4 matchups in recent years.
