With their backs against the wall, down an All-Star, the Toronto Raptors have extended their series with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Raptors were without Fred VanVleet but still handled the 76ers on their home floor, cruising to a Game 5 win, 103-88.
It was a balanced scoring attack for Toronto which had four different players tally 15-plus points, led by Pascal Siakam’s 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Reserve forward Precious Achiuwa single-handedly outscored the 76ers’ bench, going for 17 points to Philly’s 11 bench points.
Joel Embiid had 20 points and 11 rebounds but the 76ers couldn’t overcome quiet games from James Harden and Tyrese Maxey. Harden scored 15 points on 4-of-11 shooting while Maxey had just 12 points on 5-for-14 shooting.

10:28 p.m.: The Raptors have extended this series another game! Toronto’s defense was locked in, holding the 76ers to 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 27.0 percent shooting from 3. Pascal Siakam was determined to keep his team’s season alive, tallying 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, out-playing Joel Embiid, who finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Precious Achiuwa left Raptors fans with a message as the series heads back to Toronto.
10:18 p.m.: The 76ers fans are headed for the exits, according to the broadcast. The Raptors lead 96-72 after OG Anunoby threw down a vicious dunk to seemingly put this one out of reach with under two minutes to play.
10:11 p.m.: Joel Embiid has picked up his fifth foul but he will remain in the game as the 76ers trail by 12 points, 91-79, with under four minutes to play.
10:07 p.m.: The 76ers are looking to make one last push. A James Harden stepback 3-ball brings Philadelphia within 10 points, trailing 88-79 with 5:38 remaining in the game. That bucket was Harden’s first 3-pointer of the night, struggling with 12 points on 3-for-10 shooting from the field.
End of third quarter: Raptors 75, 76ers 66
9:50 p.m.: The Raptors are trying to cling onto a lead and extend this series. Pascal Siakam’s 17 points leads Toronto but Precious Achiuwa (13 points), Scottie Barnes (12) and OG Anunoby (11) have all chipped in to help give their team an edge. The Raptors’ defense has been stifling, holding the 76ers to 39 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from 3.
The 76ers have only gotten two points from their bench, being outscored 19-2 in that aspect.
9:36 p.m.: Pascal Siakam does not want the season to end just yet. The star forward is rolling to start the second half, up to 17 points for the Raptors. Toronto continues to hold a comfortable lead, up 73-60 with under three minutes remaining in the frame.
Halftime: Raptors 54, 76ers 41
9:12 p.m.: It was a second quarter of runs but the Raptors came out on top by 13 points. Star rookie Scottie Barnes has been the catalyst for Toronto, scoring a team-high 12 points on 5-for-7 from the field. The Raptors have done a strong job containing the 76ers’ backcourt, as James Harden and Tyrese Maxey have combined for just seven points on 3-for-13 shooting from the field.
9:00 p.m.: And the 76ers answer right back. After surrendering a 12-0 run to start the frame, Philadelphia has rattled off an 8-0 run of its own. The Raptors lead 41-35 with 5:22 left in the half.
8:54 p.m.: The Raptors came out of the quarter roaring. Toronto started the frame on a 12-0 run, taking a 41-27 lead with 7:14 to play in the half.
8:50 p.m.: Scottie ROY! The Rookie of the Year comes away with a steal and coast-to-coast finish to set the tone for the Raptors to start the frame.
End of first quarter: Raptors 29, 76ers 27
8:42 p.m.: The Raptors and 76ers are battling early. Joel Embiid (10 points) and Gary Trent Jr. (nine points) lead their respective teams, but both sides are getting balanced scoring contributions to this point. Tyrese Maxey came away with the best highlight of the first frame with this slick up-and-under layup.
8:38 p.m.: Precious Achiuwa taking Joel Embiid off the dribble for a highlight-reel finish, continuing to flash his growth this season.
8:31 p.m.: Here comes Joel Embiid. The All-Star center is settling in, scoring 10 quick points to bring the 76ers right back into this one. The Raptors still remain in the lead, 24-23, with 2:56 to play in the frame.
8:20 p.m.: The Raptors have come out firing, taking an early 18-9 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Interim starter Khem Birch is bringing the energy, up to five points with a 3-pointer.
8:12 p.m.: And James Harden has the game underway with the first bucket – a pull-up jumper to start things off.
